Unprecedented calamity, don't want bickering: SC allows Vedanta to run Sterlite plant for oxygen production
The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Vedanta's Sterlite Industries in Tuticorin to run an oxygen plant amid surging Covid-19 cases in the country. The SC order has paved the way for the partial reopening of Sterlite copper smelting plant which was closed in 2018 over pollution concerns.
Hearing a plea seeking reopening of Vedanta's Sterlite plant only for the production of oxygen, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday that the oxygen plant will be monitored by a committee set up by local administration and environmental experts.
